Bodhi joined the iCare Living family in January 2023, when he was not quite 4 years old and living with a tracheostomy. From the very beginning, life felt overwhelming for his mum, Abby, as she stepped into a situation she never expected. She reflects, “life felt overwhelming… we were entering a world we never expected to be part of.”
At first, the idea of carers in the home felt difficult to accept. But over time, that fear shifted into trust, reassurance, and partnership.
As support from the iCare Living team became part of daily life, Abby began to see things differently. What once felt daunting turned into something empowering.
She shares, “accepting help didn’t make me any less of a parent. It helped shape me into the parent I am today.”
That change marked the start of a strong, shared journey built on trust and consistency.
As the years went on, the care relationship deepened far beyond support needs. The team became a constant presence through both challenges and milestones.
Abby describes this beautifully, saying the carers became “so much more than carers—they became part of our family.”
She also highlights how they “celebrated every small milestone… supported us through the hard days, and always made sure he was cared for not just safely, but with genuine love and kindness.”
Antonia, one of the iCare Living team members supporting Bodhi in both home and school settings, reflects on his journey since 2023.
She describes Bodhi as “truly inspiring” and speaks about how rewarding it has been to witness his progress. She also recognises Abby’s role, calling her an “incredible source of support and guidance” throughout his care journey.
Now in 2026, aged 7, Bodhi has reached an incredible milestone—his tracheostomy was removed last week.
It marks the end of a long journey that began in January 2023, and the beginning of a new chapter filled with independence and possibility.
As shared by his family and team, this achievement reflects years of love, consistency, and encouragement from everyone involved.
Bodhi’s journey shows what is possible when families and care teams work together with trust and commitment. From an overwhelming start in 2023 to a life-changing milestone in 2026, his story is one of resilience, growth, and shared success.
